Watchmen Series Debuts October 20th 1

The Watchmen television show adaptation finally makes its debut October 20th, and will be coming exclusively to HBO.

Watchmen is based on the deconstructive superhero graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC. John Higgins was the colorist and Alan Moore was the writer, though he has deliberately distanced himself from Watchmen since it started getting adaptations. This new show just received its first trailer.

The plot seems to differ heavily from the source material. Instead of a number of vigilantes slowly coming out of retirement in response to the murder of a sponsored hero, some vigilantes have instead gathered to start a revolution while others attempt to stop it. Both stories share a general ban on superheroes, but deal with that in radically different ways.

White Rabbit, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Entertainment are the production studios behind the show, and Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, and Sara Vickers have all been confirmed to star.

Once again, the Watchmen HBO series will premiere on October 20th. I’m not sure what to expect from the show, especially having read the classic source material myself. The best we can do is just sit back and hope for the best.
