New Luke Cage Teaser Trailer Highlights Hero For Hire

New Luke Cage Teaser Trailer Highlights Hero For Hire 1

Marvel’s Luke Cage will be blasting its way onto Netflix on June 22, 2018.

Netflix announced the news in a press release, along with a new teaser trailer and photos from the upcoming show. Luke Cage will pick up after the events of the Defenders series, which was a crossover between Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron Fist. Season two features the slogan, “Can’t burn him. Can’t blast him. Can’t break him,” as Luke Cage has all but impenetrable skin.

The teaser trailer didn’t give away too much about the upcoming season, but there was a moment where someone mentioned Luke cage being paid, which harkens back to his comic book roots. The first comic about Luke Cage was called Luke Cage: Hero For Hire and launched back in 1972. Since then there have been a number of series that involve him working as a hired hand, while also keeping his neighborhood safe. Season two could very well be adapting its story from one of those series.

Along with the new teaser, Netflix released a couple of stills from the show that may shed some light on what’s in store in season two. In them we see Misty Knight putting her new bionic arm to good use and Luke Cage all ready to fight some goons. Along with the violence, the new stills also portray Luke as a community figure, as he’s shown hanging out with youth and sitting in Pop’s barber shop. The first season involved Luke coming to grips with being a hero and downright running away from those responsibilities after Pop’s death.

Luke Cage isn’t the only Marvel show returning to Netflix this year as later this week Jessica Jones’ second season will be released there as well. The season also picks up right after the Defenders series and features thirteen 50-minute episodes.
