Sense8 fans have an exciting six months ahead of them. According to a press release from Environics Communications, Sense8 will be receiving a Christmas special this year, entitled Sense8: A Christmas Special. Plus, a new season is on its way for all Netflix subscribers.
Sense8: A Christmas Special lands on Netflix on Friday Dec. 23, 12:01am PT. The Christmas special follows in the same vein as the series itself, looking at the eight main characters. “The journey continues as these eight singular hearts and minds weave in and out of each other’s lives finding deeper connections, learning darker, more desperate secrets about one another and struggling to identify with more than just oneself,” the press release states.
Season two is also coming up on Friday, May 5. Launching at 12:01am PT as well, the second season launches with 10 new episodes worldwide. “Picking up where season one left off, Capheus (Toby Onwumere), Kala (Tina Desai), Lito (Miguel Angel Silvestre), Nomi (Jamie Clayton), Riley (Tuppence Middleton), Sun (Donna Bae), Will (Brian J. Smith) and Wolfgang (Max Riemelt) come together both physically and mentally, plunged into the middle of each other’s tragedies and triumphs,” the press release explains. “On the run from Whispers (Terrence Mann), and forced to question their very identity, it’s a matter of survival as the Sensates must find a way to live with, understand and protect one another against all odds.”
Written and directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the co-directors of The Matrix series, the Wachowski sisters’ role in Sense8 has given birth to the excitement around the Netflix series. Originally released on June 5, 2015, the first season has been praised for its focus on LGBT representation, earning it a GLADD award for Outstanding Drama Series. Whether Sense8 will see further fanfare next year is unknown, although the first season leaves enormous critical acclaim for the next round of episodes to follow. Check back as more news develops.
